Aufgabe

The residents, businesses, customers, and visitors who make communities socially vibrant and economically viable increasingly expect seamless integration between the built and digital environments. The intelligent systems that make this integration possible can also enhance operational efficiency, optimize resources, and lower a community's carbon footprint. To keep their hybrid assets profitable in the long term, real estate owners need to approach operations and user experience in a way that anticipates future technological change. Our founder, Wolfgang Wagener, worked at the leading edge of these issues in senior executive roles for the digital infrastructure company Cisco during a period of worldwide growth. Investment in real estate and construction technology has accelerated rapidly since then, in growing recognition of its essential role. WOWA's recent partnership with the technology-driven Canadian design firm IBI Group helped clients take proactive steps to future-proof their developments.

Wolfgang collaborated with colleagues at Cisco to advance digital transformation as a public good and an economic driver. Cisco's Connected Urban Development, launched in support of the Clinton Global Initiative, convened global policy makers, politicians, and experts to envision the digital transformation of urban life. Within the workplace, Wolfgang saw that internet connectivity should be strategically integrated into every stage of real estate development and construction, opening new markets for Cisco and potentially transforming these industries. WOWA's recent work with IBI advanced these principles, using their Smart Community platform to weave intelligent, future-oriented systems into the fabric of built environments. One of the program's first iterations was an 8-million-square-foot mixed-use development in the heart of Silicon Valley, where internet-of-things technologies, public infrastructure connectivity, distributed intelligence, cloud computing, and digital services combine with architectural innovation to enhance community well-being and resilience.

His thought leadership opened new avenues for Cisco’s global initiatives and business strategies, and his interdisciplinary knowledge of the built and digital environments helped demonstrate how connectivity is essential to healthy and environmentally responsible urban expansion. This integrated approach enabled crucial innovation, market expansion, revenue generation, and new product development for Cisco. Our background ideally positioned WOWA to affiliate with IBI and bring the possibilities of the Smart Community platform to an exemplary development in Silicon Valley. This flexible framework, designed to adopt future technologies, supports a healthy, active, and engaged community and ambitious standards for environmental stewardship—values that define the development’s identity and enhance the quality of life that it sustains.
